Poignant Photographs Of Lonely Zoo Animals In The Winter

Spanish photographer Toni Amengual’s series ‘Necrofilia I’ captures the loneliness of zoo animals.

Armed with an annual pass to the Barcelona Zoo, Amengual projected his own sense of isolation onto the animals during trips in the winter.

Shot in muted monochrome, his haunting pictures of forlon bears, elephants, and monkeys trapped in captivity are metaphors for the acute anxiety and alienation of modern life.
